The all-new Mazda CX-5 finally here!
Experience new dimensions of driving pleasure the the all-new CX-5. Totally redesigned both inside and out, the latest mid-sized SUV is as comfortable and rewarding for passengers as it is for the driver. Designed and built for drivers who love to drive, the all-new CX-5 gives everyone on board that unique feeling of Jinba Ittai, the feeling of oneness between driver and car.
The new CX-5, rebuilt and relaunched this summer, is Mazda's largest car. It offers a whole host of new and improved features to the exterior design of the car, making it one of the most attractive SUVs on the market today.
But the improvements go much further than the aesthetics. There are a whole host of practical improvements too: The new CX-5 has a power liftgate meaning finally no more fumbling to open and shut the boot when you have your hands full! The rear doors also now open to nearly 90 degrees, meaning fitting child seats or getting babies in and out of carriers is made much easier. There is also additional trim around the edges of the rear doors which helps to soften road noise.
The interior of the new CX-5 has been upgraded giving a more premium feel than its predecessor. The high quality material used on the seats and dashboard adds style and the solidity of the buttons and switches gives the CX-5 a high quality finish synonymous with premium competitors such as the Audi A5 or Jaguar F-Pace .Small added touches, such as carpeted side panels in the boot, have reduced noise levels by 10% (or 1.3 Db). This means clearer conversations between you and your passengers!
For the driver there are a number of improvements, such as an updated more premium-looking steering wheel and optional windscreen projected driving display. This can project everything from sat nav directions through to road sign information straight onto the windscreen, meaning less distraction for the driver.
In the back, there is plenty of rear passenger space for 3 adults to sit comfortably, even on long journeys. The rear seats recline 4 degrees - which doesn’t sound a lot, but on a long journey offers a sudden added level of comfort. Boot space is plenty - 506 litres to be precise - compared to the 430 litres offered by rivals Volkswagen Tiguan and Nissan Qashqai. The boot space can be extended further by folding down the rear seats, expanding space to 1,620 litres which is ideal for transporting bulky items.
The new CX-5 comes with a high level of standard features such as cruise control, electric front and rear windows, central locking, a 7-inch touchscreen with DAB radio, CD player, Bluetooth and USB connectivity and European Satellite Navigation. The sat nav is intuitive to programme and use, and if you go for the top of the range Sport Nav, directions are projected onto the windscreen. There are electric heated front seats which are exceptionally quick to warm, front and rear parking sensors and a rear reversing camera which makes getting in and out of those tight spots much easier.
Mazda has worked hard to improve the driving experience with the new CX-5. The driving seat and position has been altered fractionally giving an ultra-comfortable seat which helps reduce driver fatigue even on the longest drives.
The new CX-5 is available with a six-speed manual or six speed automatic transmission and there are two different SKYACTIV engines to choose from:
SKYACTIV-D 2.2 Litre diesel engine is available with either 150ps or 175ps power output. This provides greatest torque, so if you require additional power (say for towing) this is the best option for you. Don’t be put off by the diesel engine because of worry about emissions though - the new CX-5 meets the strict EURO 6 emission standards and Mazda’s Diesel engines have the lowest compression ratio in the world resulting in a much cleaner output than traditional diesel engines. The emissions are low and clean enough to be classed as "low emission" for the purpose of the London Ultra Low Emission zone coming into play in April 2019 – meaning there won’t be any daily charges if you want to take the CX-5 into central London in the future.
The second option is a SKYACTIV-G 2.0 litre petrol is available with 165ps power output. This is a direct-injection engine which has the highest compression ratio among petrol engines and fantastic fuel economy.
The previous CX-5 was rated five stars in 2014 With the Euro NCAP crash-test. Mazda takes safety very seriously when designing a car. With the new CX-5 most of the safety-gear is standard kit. That includes curtain airbags, driver and front-passenger airbags, traction control, emergency stop signalling system, Smart City Brake Support to automatically prevent collisions at low speeds, and Hill Hold Assist. As options, customers can choose lane departure and blind spot warning systems too. The Mazda CX-5 is approved by "Stop the Crash" safety charity – which campaigns for the highest road safety to be adopted by manufacturers and governments!
