Mazda 2: The Complete Guide

Discover everything you need to know about the Mazda 2 and the Mazda 2 Hybrid in our complete guide, which offers expert insights on the vehicles' key features, engine options and interiors.

Updated 23 February 2026

Launched in 2022, the Mazda 2 Hybrid is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 79bhp electric motor, delivering a combined output of 114bhp. There’s no need for plug-in charging – simply fill up the tank and drive it as you would any conventional petrol car. Its lithium-ion battery efficiently self-charges, recycling energy during braking. The Mazda 2 Hybrid is available in 4 trim levels: Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, Homura and Homura Plus.

With a comfy and spacious interior, the Mazda 2 Hybrid comes with impressive technological features as standard: a 9″ infotainment display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and keyless entry. Its 5-star Euro-NCAP rating also highlights modern safety features such as its Pre-Crash Safety system, that uses sensors to pre-empt collisions.

The Mazda 2 was originally launched in 2004 and is a separate model from the Mazda 2 Hybrid. The 3rd and most recent generation was discontinued in February 2025, with no plans for a subsequent model.

Equipped with a 1.5L SkyActiv-G petrol engine, the Mazda 2 offers good fuel economy and low emissions. Additionally, apart from the entry level SE-L trim, all manual models come with the SkyActiv M Hybrid (mild hybrid) system. This captures energy during braking and uses it to assist the engine, further improving the Mazda 2’s fuel efficiency; delivering up to 60.1mpg.

The Mazda 2 showcases Mazda’s elegant ‘KODO’ exterior design. It also has a sophisticated interior with features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an engine start button.

Find Out More About The Mazda 2

The Mazda 2 Hybrid is the smallest model in the range but offers plenty of interior space. Heads up display is a great addition if you go for a top of the range, along with heated half leather seats with additional heated steering wheel. It is great both round town and over long distances.
