The Mazda CX-5 Vs. The Mazda CX-3

The Mazda CX-5 Vs. The Mazda CX-3

Mazda’s innovative engineering and timeless car designs give them a prestigious brand title as a high quality car manufacturer within the motoring industry. Their extensive vehicle portfolio includes two of T W White & Sons favourite Mazda models; the CX-3 and the 2016 WHAT CAR? Best Large SUV winner, the CX-5. If you’re interested in a CX Mazda model it can be difficult to pick the right style. That’s why we’ve put together a helpful comparison of the CX-3 and CX-5, detailing the most important features of each car, enabling you to make an informed decision based on which model matches your preferences.

The Exterior

At first glance it’s obvious that the two cars are Mazda’s because of the iconic Mazda body and design, however these models are very different and more than just resized replicas of each other. The CX-5 has more of a ‘truck like’ design from the side, thanks to its greater interior space which adds a whole other dimension to the look of the exterior. The CX-5 is physically larger and higher up, perfect for those who like to see the road from a higher angle.

On the other hand, the CX-3 is smaller with a much more youthful look, featuring streamlined little kinks along the shoulder line for a sharper finish, narrower headlights and blacked out rear pillars for a sophisticated and eye-catching look.

The Interior

The CX-5 has a slightly dated interior and mirrors the style of the Mazda 6, with an older, smaller built-in sat nav version than the CX-3. However, both interiors are constructed with the finest quality leather seats and steering wheels for ideal comfort and a smooth, sleek finish.

The CX-3 has a striking interior, with asymmetric circular heating ducts and a red leather trim if you choose the top Sport Spec. The front of the CX-3 offers plenty of space, however the boot is 40% smaller than the CX-5 and the back seats of the car are noticeably smaller. If you’ll have passengers riding in the back for short, everyday journeys this would be no bother, but a longer journey may begin to feel too cramped in the back seats.

The Thrill of Driving

The award winning CX-5 is considered one of the best handling car in its class and doesn’t disregard the quality of the ride to achieve this. With the CX-5 you get the best of both; it drives like a sporty car whilst riding as smoothly as a saloon for a truly pleasurable driving experience.

The CX-3 is without a doubt the best handling car in its class. When you compare the saloon performance drive of the CX-5, the CX-3 has more of a hot hatch performance. If you’re looking for a car that’s the epitome of comfort then consider the CX-5, but if you’re seeking a little more of a driving thrill experience, then the smaller CX-3 is definitely the best choice.
