All New Suzuki Swift Sport Coming Soon
STARTING FROM £TBC
Fans of the Suzuki Swift Sport can rest easy with the news that a new model is set to go on sale in the Summer of 2018.
Recently unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Suzuki Swift Sport will boast a turbo powered 1.4l Boosterjet four cylinder engine (the same engine in the Suzuki Vitara S). This engine will provide the Swift Sport with 138bhp and 230Nm of torque, and will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox. The transmission has been re-engineered with the aim to improve shift smoothness and feedback to the driver.
The new Swift Sport is around 80kgs lighter than its predecessor, with a curb weight of 970kgs. The suspension has also been revised with the car sitting around 15mm lower that before. Performance figures are yet to be released. However, it's anticipated that the new engine will make its impact felt with additional torque, as the turbocharged engine delivers far greater torque from low revs than the previous naturally aspirated 1.6l engine seen in the last Suzuki Swift Sport. Combined with a sub-one tonne kerbweight and compact dimensions, this combination is expected to deliver entertaining handling around town and on country roads.
Naturally, the Swift Sport boasts trademark hot hatch looks. The front end has been revised with a new front grille and a splitter - giving the car a sportier first impression. From a side on profile, there are lower side skirts and large diamond-cut alloy wheels. At the back there's a sporty black diffuser with two large exhaust exits, just like the previous Swift Sport.
Inside, the cabin gets a sporty update to go with its performance upgrades. Sports bucket style seats have been fitted, as has a new flat-bottomed steering wheel seen in the new Swift.
As the Sport will be the flagship of the Swift range, it will come packed with Suzuki's latest interior and technology options. These include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 4.2-inch display set between the dials, Bluetooth phone and music streaming, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Pricing and specification details have yet to be released, but the Swift Sport is currently set to go on sale in Summer 2018.
