The New Mazda CX-6e: Everything You Need to Know

The all-new Mazda CX-6e is Mazda’s latest all-electric SUV. It brings a sharp new exterior design, and a comfortable and modernised cabin full of technology, all powered by a 78kWh LFP battery with up to 300 miles of driving range.

On the outside, the CX-6e stands bold and poised, while maintaining Mazda’s sleek, flowing design. Inside, a 26.45″ dual split-view touchscreen sits at the front of a refined cabin, alongside a 23-speaker audio system, panoramic sunroof, and a suite of driver assistance technology as standard.

Available in Takumi and Takumi Plus trim levels, the CX-6e is designed to combine everyday practicality with the capability to handle longer journeys.

Below, we take a look at the CX-6e’s electric performance and charging, exterior design, interior features, and safety systems that make it the perfect choice for an all-electric mid-size SUV.

Electric Performance and Charging

The CX-6e is powered by a single 258ps (190kW) electric motor that drives the rear wheels. Its 78kWh LFP battery offers up to 300 miles range, with a combined energy consumption of 18.9-19.4 kWh/100km (varies depending on trim level). Charging options are as follows:

  • Rapid charging: With a rapid public charger at up to 200kW, the CX-6e charges from 10-80% in around 24 minutes.
  • Home charging: On a 7kW home wall box, a full charge takes approximately 11 hours 48 minutes, making it well suited to overnight charging.

A full charge (0-100%) costs roughly £5.46, based on an average electricity rate of 7p/kWh and the 78kWh battery. Costs will be lower on an EV-specific overnight tariff and higher at public rapid chargers (where prices are set by the network operator).

The CX-6e uses a Type 2 or CCS connector, giving access to the vast majority of public AC and DC rapid chargers across the UK. You can charge at home using a wall box, or at any compatible public charge point nationwide.

Exterior Design and Features

The CX-6e puts a modern twist on Mazda’s traditional design philosophy. Frameless doors and flush door handles give it a clean, modern profile, while discreet aerodynamic vents on the rear pillars and bonnet help improve the car’s efficiency. Continuous LED headlamps feature an illuminated wing, and a subtle lighting welcome animation plays as you approach the car.

Seven colours are available, Jet Black, and 6 other multi-tone colours:

  • Jet Black
  • Crystal White Pearl
  • Aero Grey
  • Air Stream Blue
  • Machine Grey
  • Soul Red Crystal
  • Nightfall Violet, a new colour that shifts from darker to lighter purple depending on the surrounding light

On the Takumi Plus trim, digital side mirrors replace conventional wing mirrors. The weatherproof side cameras offer a sleeker look, while the digital interior rear-view mirror provides a wider field of view and enhanced nighttime visibility, giving you a clear field of view even when the boot is fully loaded.

The CX-6e also has a braked towing capacity of up to 1,500kg with a vertical load limit of 75kg.

Interior Design and Features

Infotainment and Connectivity

At the centre of the CX-6e’s cabin is a 26.45″ touchscreen with a dual split-view 5K display, which also has anti-glare and anti-reflective coating. The driver can keep navigation on the right while the passenger independently controls the left-hand side of the screen. A large head-up display (HUD) is also standard.

Voice recognition and gesture control allow you to adjust climate settings, open windows, and set navigation to your next destination without taking your hands off the wheel.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, alongside a 23-speaker, 1,280W audio system that delivers sound through speakers positioned throughout the cabin. Bluetooth headrest speakers in the front seats allow the driver and front passenger to enjoy audio whilst keeping the cabin quieter for rear passengers. There is also a 20W external speaker for outdoor entertainment.

There is a dedicated Mazda CX-6e app and Bluetooth key functionality, so your phone can unlock and start the car without a physical key. Secure digital access can be shared with up to three additional drivers, and you have full control over when each person’s access begins and ends. You can also use the app for charge management and for climate control.

Storage Space

The CX-6e offers 468 litres of boot space, which increases to 1,434 litres when the rear seats are folded. An 80-litre front storage area provides a convenient home for charging cables and smaller items.

Cabin and Comfort

The interior has soft-touch Maztex upholstery – Mazda’s leather alternative that is designed for durability and ease of cleaning.  Titanium-coloured semi-matte accents are used throughout. A panoramic sunroof with insulated laminated glass and an electric sunshade is standard across both trims. Rear passengers have their own touchscreen to adjust the sunshade and climate control independently. On the Takumi Plus, that rear touchscreen also controls seat heating and ventilation. A flat floor and long wheelbase give both front and rear passengers generous legroom.

Ambient lighting throughout the cabin creates a relaxing atmosphere, with up to 256 colour options available. Thin A-pillars provide good outward visibility, particularly useful when pulling out at junctions.

Safety and Driver Assistance Systems

The CX-6e incorporates a safe and secure design as it is built around a high-strength steel safety cage with nine airbags and a securely housed battery. It comes with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to provide active driving support, including:

  • Rear Collision Warning (RCW): Alerts the driver to vehicles approaching from behind.
  • Smart Brake Support (SBS): Applies the brakes automatically to help avoid or reduce the severity of a collision.
  • Door Opening Warning: Alerts occupants when opening a door into the path of approaching traffic or cyclists.
  • Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK): Helps prevent unintended lane departure in an emergency situation.
  • 360-degree view monitor: Provides a full surround view to assist with parking and low-speed manoeuvring.

Conclusion

The Mazda CX-6e takes a large stride forward with cabin technology, driving range as an all-electric SUV, and standout exterior design. For full pricing and specification details across the Takumi and Takumi Plus trim levels, visit the Mazda CX-6e page on our website.
