Mazda CX5 Review

Mazda’s new CX5 compact crossover SUV is a technical tour de force. From its advanced engines and transmissions, SKYACTIV technology, sophisticated chassis and lightweight engineering, the Mazda CX5 delivers amazing efficiency, economy, performance and practicality.

Two engines are available in the CX5 – the SKYACTIV-G 2.0-litre petrol (164hp) and the SKYACTIV-D 2.2-litre diesel (147 or 173hp). Both engines share a record-breaking compression ratio which results in excellent efficiency. And with up to a 30% reduction in fuel consumption thanks to Mazda’s SKYACTIV fuel-saving technologies, combined economy is up to 63mpg for the 147hp 2.2-litre diesel.

The SKYACTIV-D also emits as little as 120g/km CO2, meaning exhaust emissions are among the lowest of any compact SUV on sale.

The Mazda CX5 is available with two and four-wheel drive as well as a choice of six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes for both engines too. The advanced diesel automatic will actually become the first Mazda to combine this engine and transmission layout.

Based on Mazda’s all-new rigid and lightweight SKYACTIV platform, the CX5 apes its bigger brother, the CX-7, retaining Mazda’s brilliant safety performance, sure-footed character from its Active Torque 4-Wheel Drive system, and involving driving dynamics.

Mazda’s new ‘KODO – soul of motion’ design theme is showcased on the CX5. The subtle aggression and striking proportions of the new family face certainly grab attention. With extensive use of high-tensile steel throughout, weight is reduced without compromising safety or performance. Coupled to the CX5’s new suspension, Mazda’s compact crossover SUV rides with aplomb.

From behind the wheel, the Mazda CX5 provides a commanding and clear view of the road ahead. The interior is neatly designed and packed with technology, including Mazda’s touchscreen sat-nav system, while the seats give a brilliant blend of comfort and support so you can experience the CX5’s sporting credentials to the full. There’s plenty of passenger space too, particularly in the rear.

The Mazda CX5 is a clever and innovative compact crossover packed full of cutting edge engineering. To find out more information or to take a test drive please fill in the form below or contact us via telephone.
