Hyundai i20 Facelift Review
The stylish new second-generation Hyundai i20 builds on the original Korean supermini’s superb comfort and quality at a truly affordable price.
It offers a superb blend of style and practicality, thanks to the incorporation of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture design language. This incorporates flowing lines and striking taut surfaces with some truly premium styling touches inside and out.
However, despite its executive new Hyundai family look, the Hyundai i20 retains great visibility, meaning it’s easy to drive in urban environments. There is also a generous 295-litre boot.
The Hyundai i20’s interior brings quality features from more executive models in the range – such as the Hyundai i40 – to the supermini segment. Air conditioning, electric front windows, one-touch indicators, remote central locking and an MP3/iPod compatible CD player all come as standard, making the i20 ownership an effortless prospect.
With four different trim options – Classic, Blue, Active and Style – there’s scope to create your perfect i20, too. Features such as Bluetooth with voice recognition, parking sensors, electrically adjustable heated mirrors, 16-inch alloy wheels and climate control are all available on the new Hyundai i20, meaning it puts the latest equipment at your fingertips.
A range of highly efficient petrol and diesel engines are available in the i20. The new 75bhp 1.1-litre turbodiesel engine is a star and returns an amazing 88.3mpg combined with 84g/km CO2 emissions – meaning zero road tax – in Blue trim. This makes it the greenest ‘conventional fuel’ car you can buy.
The same unit in Classic or Active trim still emits only 99g/km CO2 (returning 74.3mpg average) meaning road tax remains free. A 90bhp 1.4 diesel – available in normal or Blue Drive guise – is also available, with a choice of nippy and popular 1.2 and 1.4 petrols – producing 84bhp and 99bhp respectively, too.
Safety and security is strong, with ABS, Hyundai’s Electronic Stability Programme (ESC) with Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) and front, front side and full-length curtain airbags coming fitted as standard. As with all Hyundais, the i20 also receives the manufacturer’s five-year triple care warranty package.
The new Hyundai i20 is a smartly styled supermini that offers excellent levels of quality and equipment at affordable prices. Check out the full Hyundai i20 range today at our branch in Weybridge, Surrey.
